Acceptable Use Policy
Effective May 27, 2026.
This Acceptable Use Policy ("AUP") describes activities that are prohibited on Stele. It supplements, and is incorporated by reference into, our Terms of Service. "You" and "Stele" have the meanings given in the Terms.
We use the AUP to keep the Service useful and safe for everyone, especially while the product is in early beta and run by a single operator. If you are uncertain whether something is allowed, ask first at legal@stele-ai.dev rather than after.
Prohibited content and conduct
You may not use the Service to do any of the following, and you may not allow anyone (including AI coding agents) acting under your account to do them:
- Break the law. Use the Service for any activity that violates applicable law, including laws governing intellectual property, export control, sanctions, fraud, child safety, or computer misuse.
- Harm other people. Upload, store, or transmit content that is threatening, harassing, defamatory, intentionally false in a way that targets a real person, or that promotes self-harm or violence. Stalking and doxxing are not allowed.
- Distribute malware. Upload or distribute viruses, worms, ransomware, cryptominers, command-and-control payloads, or any other software designed to disrupt, damage, or gain unauthorized access to a computer system.
- Attack the Service. Attempt to gain unauthorized access to accounts, projects, systems, or data; circumvent authentication, rate limits, or row-level security; conduct denial-of-service or amplification attacks; or perform unsanctioned penetration testing. (Sanctioned testing under our responsible disclosure policy is welcome.)
- Scrape or strip-mine. Run automated traffic against the Service in excess of any documented or reasonable rate limit, or systematically extract data, designs, or other materials to build a competing product.
- Abuse the trust model. Impersonate another person or organization, misrepresent your affiliation, or use the Service to phish, spam, or deceive Stele or its users.
- Train on other users' data. Use the Service — including hosted RAG, search, or graph traversal — to assemble training data from any other Stele user's content.
- Resell without permission. Repackage or resell the hosted Service, or expose it as a backend for another product, without our prior written agreement.
- Process regulated data we are not designed for. Upload protected health information (PHI under HIPAA), payment card data (PCI), or other categories of regulated data for which we have not signed a corresponding agreement with you.
Account hygiene
You are responsible for everything that happens under your account, including activity by AI agents you have authorized. Protect your sign-in credentials and personal access tokens, and rotate them if you suspect they have been disclosed. Report account compromise to security@stele-ai.dev.
Enforcement
If we reasonably believe you have violated this AUP, applicable law, or another part of the Terms, we may take any action we consider proportionate, including:
- contacting you to ask for clarification;
- removing or quarantining specific content;
- throttling or revoking access to specific Service features;
- suspending or terminating your account; and
- notifying affected users, law enforcement, or other authorities where required.
We will use judgment, not surprise. For first incidents that look unintentional, we will normally reach out before taking destructive action. We reserve the right to act immediately, without prior notice, where we believe a delay would risk harm to other users, the Service, or third parties.
Reporting abuse
If you believe another Stele user is violating this AUP, report it to legal@stele-ai.dev. Include the project, account, or content you are reporting and as much detail as you can share.
